PowerBox MPX - PIK connector

New MPX - PIK safety connector system from PowerBox Systems - setting new standards!
PowerBox Systems has carried out further development based on the familiar MPX high-current connector
system. Until now it was up to the modeller to decide how he connected MPX high-current connectors to
the cables, and what level of care he applied. Many people found the soldering process difficult, and
poor soldered joints to the terminals would completely nullify the advantages of this connector system,
which is the finest available to modellers. The solder joints were frequently supported using heat-shrink
sleeves, silicone or hot-melt glue. As all users inevitably discovered, these methods did not constitute
long-term solutions.
Much careful thought, testing and experience have now led to success.
We start by soldering the cables to the MPX high-current connector to professional standards. The soldered
and checked connector is then placed in an eroded metal injection mould, and a special (hot smelt) process
is applied to force nylon round the joints under heat and pressure. The result is an incredibly tough
connector system of the type used in full-size aviation and car production. The connector grip features
integral indentations, by which it can be inserted and withdrawn safely and conveniently. The solder joints
are fully encapsulated and acid-proof, and the danger of solder joint oxidation is also completely eliminated.
The plastic grip relieves the solder joints of all strain, the soldered wires are supported by the whole of
the connector, and the area liable to fracture - the soldered joint between wire and terminal - is completely
supported and protected.
Temperature resistant from -30°C to + 60°C, totally resistant to oil, acid and chemicals, durable, practical
and ultra-safe. As of March 2008 these new PIK connectors have been fitted as standard to all PowerBox Batteries
and PowerSwitches. Cables fitted with plugs and sockets can also be purchased separately for the modeller who
wishes to make up his own battery packs or for other purposes, as can ready-made extension leads in 20, 30 and
40 cm lengths. It is our hope that this new system makes a small but important contribution to safety in model
flying. Following on from the introduction of our security clips for MPX connectors in 2003, the system marks
a further step to enhanced safety in modelling. The new MPX - PIK connector system is unique to PowerBox Systems,
and is patent-protected.
